Thobile Maphumulo | Intern
My name is Thobile Maphumulo, and I am from Umlazi Township in KwaZulu-Natal. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Botany and Geography (2023) and a Bachelor of Science Honours in Geography (2024) from University of Zululand focusing on the recent cut-off low weather systems affecting the south-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, which strengthened my interest in environmental management, climate change adaptation, and meteorology. Through my academic and research work, I have developed skills in climate data analysis, GIS mapping, environmental assessment and scientific reporting. I am currently learning more R and Python programming, and climate model validation. I am passionate about using these skills to help communities and organizations better understand environmental change and develop practical solutions for adapting to a changing climate, while working toward my goal of becoming a Climatologist.
