Anele Mthembu

The INR welcomes Intern Anele Mthembu through the DSI-HRC Internship Programme. Anele holds a Bachelor of Social Science in Geography & Environmental Management and a Postgraduate Diploma in Food Security, from the University of KwaZulu- Natal. Her research interests are in environmental risk assessment, environmental management, climate change adaptation and resilience and food security. She is currently studying towards a BSc Honours Environmental Management. Anele’s specific technical skills include literature and policy reviews, GIS , environmental impact assessment, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, and stakeholder engagement.

Before joining the INR, Anele worked as an intern at the Msunduzi Municipality from 2021 to May 2023. In her involvement with the municipality, she provided input into development applications and sector plans and performed GIS based queries in relation to climate change. She is currently studying towards a BSc Honours Environmental Management at UNISA. Anele’s specific technical skills include literature and policy reviews, GIS , environmental impact assessment, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
