Theo has a Masters Degree in Applied Environmental Science which he obtained from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He began his career at the Institute of Natural Resources (INR) as an intern, subsequent to being promoted to a junior scientist. 

His core interests in environmental governance and natural resource management have been instrumental in shaping his career and directly influencing the projects he has been involved in at the INR.

He currently works between two themes within the organisation; Adaptation and Resilience, and Environmental Sustainability and Governance.
